He had been stalking a young woman, Janani, three years ago after she rejected his advances. During interrogation, Ramesh Kumar revealed that he was an engineering graduate who worked at a private company. Investigators seized the phone he had used to make the calls to Deepa Venkat. A CCB team tracked him down and arrested him at Ambattur bus stand. It led us to Ramesh Kumar," said Shivakumar. "To find the current user of the SIM card, we collected information like the IMEI number of the cellphone from the mobile service provider. The number was registered in the name of Suvitha Krishnan, but when police contacted her, she said she had lost her SIM card a year ago and had not made any formal police complaint. "She said she was being harassed and sought legal action against the person making the calls." Police obtained, through the service provider, details of the person in whose address the number had been taken. "Deepa Venkat said she received abusive and menacing calls on her phone at home and her cellphone and that she was apprehensive about her safety," said deputy commissioner, CCB, R Shivakumar. She initially blocked the number from which she was receiving the abusive calls. In her complaint, Deepa Venkat said she had no business rivals and so had no idea who could be making the calls.
